Create up to 50 custom email templates to standardize and personalize the design and content of outbound emails for your brands and teams. In Kustomer, you can save and manage multiple versions of each email template, as well as set default email templates for individual teams and your entire organization.

With email templates in Kustomer, you can:

* **Standardize design and content** for email replies, auto responses, CSAT surveys, and forwarded emails.
* **Build and style email templates** with a visual template editor to customize emails.
* **Insert dynamic text to scale and customize content** for email signatures, greetings, and more.
* **Embed HTML code snippets for CSAT integrations** (for example, [NiceReply](https://support.nicereply.com/article/50-introduction-to-kustomer-integration) or [Customer Thermometer](https://www.customerthermometer.com/user-guide/kustomer/)).
* **Customize email templates further** with an HTML code editor for advanced users. You can start building in the visual editor and then convert your template to customize further with the code editor.
* **Set and manage global default email templates** for each type of outbound email.
* **Insert translated content** into replies using your [custom snippets](https://help.kustomer.com/use-snippets-ryotv5VDP#emails).
* **Assign default email templates for different teams** to set and manage specific templates for team email aliases.

To access email templates, go to **Settings![](https://cdn.kustomerhostedcontent.com/media/570fad9d9001bc1000163b28/f6b43c83bf0c1ac6fa56ff3d89ddb5e8.png)****\> Administration > Email Templates**.

From the Email Templates page, you can add templates, manage saved template versions, and set a global default template for each email template type or a default template for a specific team email alias.

Kustomer email templates use the [Handlebars](https://handlebarsjs.com/guide/) templating language to populate emails with relevant information and data attributes related to the current Draft, Customer, User, Conversation, and Message History objects. For more information, see [Data attributes available for email templates](https://help.kustomer.com/en_us/data-attributes-email-templates-ryu7VTeSA).

You can create email templates with the [Visual Builder](#visual-builder) or the [Code Editor](http://code-editor). You can use both editors to customize and populate content with Handlebars templates for dynamic text. If you'd like to provide your own custom HTML, you can use the Code Editor or convert over from a template you've created with the Visual Builder.

### Set a global default email template

Once you've created a template, you can set a global default template for all users from the Email Templates page for each template type. The Email Templates page lists any global default templates with a Default Template label.

**Note:** Any email template defaults set for specific email aliases will override the set global default template. To learn more, see [Set a default template for email aliases](#set-alias-default).

### Set a default template for email aliases

If your organization uses multiple email addresses (for example, sales@your\_org.com, support@your\_org.com, and so on), you can assign a different template for each address.

To set a default template for an email alias:

1. Go to **Apps**![](https://cdn.kustomerhostedcontent.com/media/570fad9d9001bc1000163b28/ba90589cb4c9370982c774a465269bc7.png)**\> Email** in the sidebar.
2. Select the edit icon ![](https://cdn.kustomerhostedcontent.com/media/570fad9d9001bc1000163b28/9a9a56ac86f692d4d7b5ae09c7ee3234.png)for an email alias to open the Edit Email Address modal. You can choose a default template from the **Template** drop-down menu.
3. Select **Save** to set the default email template for the alias.

All outbound emails from this email address will now use the set default template instead of any global default email templates set for your organization.

### **Understand how templates apply to replies**

When you reply to a conversation, the email template applied to your outbound message is determined by the default template set for the email alias or the global default template. The system does not remember or reapply the last template you selected in a previous reply within the same conversation.

If your workflow sends an outbound email using a specific template, subsequent manual replies to that conversation still use the default template, not the workflow's template.

To ensure a specific template applies to most replies, set it as the default template on your email alias in ****Settings > Platform > Email****.

### **Set a default reply template**

Set a default reply template so that all new agent email replies use a consistent, branded format. Without a default, agents may send replies with no template applied.

To set a default reply template:

1. From the left navigation, click ****Settings****. The Settings page opens.
2. In the ****Settings**** page, click ****Email**** and then select ****Templates****.
3. Select the ****Replies**** tab.
4. Locate the template you want to use as the default. Click the ****more options**** menu (three dots) next to the template name.
5. Select ****Set as default****.

After you set a default, all new reply messages use this template automatically. Agents can still select a different template from the template dropdown when composing a reply.
